The state of Hawaii consists of the six islands shown above. The biggest island, at the bottom right of image, is named Hawaii. Having an island and a state of the same name is often a source of confusion, so the island of Hawaii is usually called The Big Island. The main Hawaiian island is named Oahu. Oahu is the island on which Honolulu and Waikiki are located.
Volcano is on the Big Island. To reach Volcano, you can fly from mainland and international locations to Kona airport (in Kailua), which is a two hour drive from Volcano, or to Hilo airport (ITO), which is a 40 minute drive from Volcano.
